Resting Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 12-15 minutes
Total Time: 52-55 minutes
Servings: 2-4
Ingredients:
For the Pizza Dough:
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Pizza Toppings:
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Your choice of toppings (e.g., pepperoni, sliced bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives)
Instructions:
Prepare Pizza Dough:
-
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough discard, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it back in the mixing bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
Roll Out Dough:
- After the dough has rested, transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough into a circle or rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
Prepare Pizza:
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet or a pizza peel if using a pizza stone.
- Spread the pizza sauce or marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
- Arrange your choice of toppings over the cheese.
Bake Pizza:
- Carefully transfer the assembled pizza to the preheated oven. If using a baking sheet, place it directly on the oven rack. If using a pizza stone, slide the pizza onto the hot stone in the oven.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
Serve:
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
- Slice the sourdough discard pizza into wedges or squares and serve hot.
